Philanthropy Overview

Forbidden Flutes is committed to sharing their performing and teaching activities with under served populations by engaging in a variety of philanthropic endeavors. These include outreach educational presentations, charity fundraising house concerts and other benefit events, as well as therapeutic music that they perform in hospices and health care facilities.

Outreach

Laura’s own musical journey was inspired by a volunteer performance in her grade school. And both she and Liesa recognize the crucial role that arts in the schools can play. So, in addition to their funded school presentations, Forbidden Flutes offers their outreach activities, pro-bono, to deserving school communities each season. Should your institution lack the resources to bring in guests to perform for your students, please contact us about a possible volunteer Forbidden Flutes visit. You can read more about our educational activities here.

Benefit Concerts

Liesa and Laura also have extensive experience self-producing a wide range of performances, having managed all of their touring activities themselves throughout their 12-year partnership. In Arizona, Laura founded and directed the Painted Sky Music Festival from 2002-06, where Forbidden Flutes was featured each season. After hosting several very successful and highly popular house concerts to raise funds for festival operations, Laura decided to commit those same energies to raising funds for other non-profit organizations. Consequently, with Forbidden Flutes, she started Instruments of Change, a charity-fundraising house concert series. If you are involved with a charity that you think could benefit from our services please contact us about producing an event for you. More information about our services are also available here: Instruments of Change link.

Therapeutic Music

Forbidden Flutes has been privileged to share their music with a variety of populations in order to provide therapeutic benefits. With experience performing Bedside Music in Cancer Centers, Pediatric Hospital Wards, and Hospices, Forbidden Flutes most recently has been privileged to perform seasonally for residents at the Cottage Hospice, which serves Vancouver’s downtown eastside. Forbidden Flutes welcomes invitations to perform in other therapeutic contexts, free of charge, so please contact us about a visit to your facility.
